Spring Garden (new poem)

"Spring Garden"

by Tim Kavi

wondering about the Earth

there are only the glorious

colors, wings, of the seasoned

pushing forth

of Spring's new birth

gentle footsteps

down all of the paths

brings only the Mother

to her young

who is gathering eggs

that contain treasures

nearby

and dreaming of tea

with her tea set

until the sun greets

the raindrops on the

little plants

both she and her beholden ones

planted in the garden

by Gaia's loving hands

until all is revealed

in the gardens

of Spring.

New Poem: Lines of the Heart: A Message of Hope at Christmas

lines of the heart
(a message of hope at Christmas)
by Tim Kavi

after the bare
moment of life
there are lines
lines of the heart

tiny beats that carry a promise
of a life that will grow

and even in the beginning of Winter
there is the birth of divinity
celebrated all over the world

beats of humanity
that in that birth is a hope
we all know

look inside you
lines of the human heart
are everywhere

in the hope of a child
to be loved and nurtured
and held

in the hope of a people
who long and sometimes struggle
to take unknown steps
to a new freedom

in the hope of families
to find each other again
even though miles
and life has chipped away
at the core of the love they knew

in the hope of love
direct utterances and declarations
of our greatest hope
to never be alone
but to be loved and affirmed
in the uniqueness of who we truly are

there are lines of the heart
connecting me and you
brother to brother
sister to sister
connecting us to experience

hurts and sorrow
joys in the morrow
to say to the chained
you are free

and to walk in
humanity's greatest hope

enduring peace
and freedom

in the true lines of the heart
a call to dialogue
and to a response
only to become

who we are all meant to be
unique and totally free

from the constraints of body
to the oneness of us

so that in those fading lights
there are still lines of the heart
on some ECG
and monitor

transcending
to another place
lit by grace

hope still beats
in the lines of the human heart.

More About Goddesses: The Greek Goddess Artemis (New Essay)

More About Goddesses: Artemis, Greek Goddess of the Hunt
By Tim Kavi

Artemis is the daughter of Zeus and Leto, and the twin sister of Apollo. Her bow and arrows that she would carry were made by Cyclopes and Hephaestus. She is depicted as goddess of the hunt, wild animals and many cities also worshiped her as the goddess of fertility. Artemis is often depicted with the moon above her head and was frequently depicted as being close with Selene, the goddess of the moon. More often she would be depicted as roaming the mountain forests with her nymphs by her side in search of panthers, stags, hinds and lions. In later myths she would assist these animals by protecting their overall well-being while fighting to ensure their safety.

Artemis is also seen as the goddess of chastity. Legend has it that when she was three years old, Artemis asked Zeus to provide her with eternal virginity. All of her close companions were virgins, and she would punish any man who attempted to harm the purity of herself or her companions. In one legend, Actaeon came upon Artemis and her nymphs bathing naked in a pool, and when she saw him watching Artemis transformed him into a stag and sent her hounds after him. She was also known to use her bow to kill those who were known to rape women, including Orion.

Because Artemis was born before her brother Apollo, her mother gifted her the island of Ortygia as thanks for helping her mother to cross the strait of Delos to give birth to Apollo. This legend made Artemis an idol to women going through childbirth. Some cities depicted her as a goddess and protector to those in the midst of  the hunt, a mass of contradictions as she brought sudden death alongside the birth of a new life. Because her twin brother was seen as a healing god, many would pray to Artemis for assistance in the healing of gout, rabies or leprosy in hopes that she would appeal to Apollo on their behalf.

These and other legends of Artemis would be honored with lively festivals. Festivals were held throughout Orthia, Brauron, Brauronia and most notably Sparta. As women became of age and reached puberty they would be initiated into the cult of Artemis, although they would be required to leave this cult once they became married. Artemis was not against the realm of marriage, but she chose to be surrounded by those who were pure, so those who chose to engage in marital acts would be required to return her paraphernalia as they took on this new role.

Updated Photo, Poet's Afterword--About the Photo: Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt, stands confidently in a moonlit forest clearing, her silver bow held loosely in her hand. Her attire is simple and practical, befitting a huntress. Nearby stands Persephone, the goddess of springtime and queen of the Underworld, holding a bouquet of vibrant wildflowers, a gentle smile gracing her lips. The scene subtly contrasts Artemis's wild, untamed nature with Persephone's softer, more nurturing presence.~~TK

Too Many Words (New Poem)

Too Many Words

by Tim Kavi

there are too many words
in space
and not enough meaning
even if I dreamed them
every night
I cannot find them

for I cannot find you
my love
my delight
it has become dark night

coldness is wrapped
around my soul
like a blanket
and it won't let me go

my fears threaten
to consume me
but this is only my mind
when all around me
is the dying of light

the coming of night
is when shadows become immersed
in the dark
lonely songs I cannot bear

I awake
to face the coldest morning
snow has fallen
everywhere

fluttering eyes
open, I am
to wonder, rub eyes
to stare
see you there

I see all is beauty
in the woman
standing there

and the words
that had slowed like Winter
flowed in the promise
that if I kept speaking

kept writing
Spring will come there
in the hearts
of two

the glories of rebirth
as all the words
of love flow

while outside the snow
falls anew.

Moonlight Reflection and Blues (New Poem)

Moonlight Reflection and Blues
by Tim Kavi

chiseled in white, Your
silhouetted body glimmers
in moonlight
hues of blue against the
backdrop of darkening night

sighs escape the moon's lips
for You are awesome
in Diana's sight

dancing stardust is in your hair
standing near You are framed
in beauty, where even robed,
Rodin stops to stare

I dare not breathe, wondering if
I will awaken, to find
You are not there

my eyes struggle to focus
to make coherence in the bending
twisted destiny, chiseled in night,
I feel your warm body next to me

blue event horizon
in the sheets of our bed
canyons and furrows lead to
Your vastness
where a Goddess is born

for You are a beautiful sight.

your beauty (new poem)

your beauty
by Tim Kavi

I saw you at the museum
in the ruins of Athens
at the park the other day
and I saw you in the flowers just opened

all around
I saw your beauty
it is like the dancing goddess of spring
that brings life

and like the harvest
reaping in Autumn
you know
what tomorrow your love will bring

all is new
renewed and covered in your Earth
again

great is your faithfulness
great is your love
my words are just markings of love
where I am a tool in your hands

tending to wherever your love grows
born things
are everywhere

stretched across the membranes of time
ready to burst
the underlying true Universe
is foreshadowed
and longs to be born

waiting for your spoken words of love
and everywhere uttering your Name
there is only the appearing
of all that is You
in love
in resurrection
in beauty.

Your Love Transcends (new poem)

Your Love Transcends
by Tim Kavi

from somewhere
we met
and yet
your love transcends
conventions

it is not my love
it is your love
empowered
it is your freedom
to say and to do

it is Your beauty
that instructs me
in the kind
gentility nature of love

it is your
sweet smile
that the composers
sung to

it is your fair eyes
that guides
the young
teaches
tyrants to bow down
the lame to dance
the tongueless
to sing

it is your love
that transcends

no other
love will do
or moves the poet
like the
love of you

remember
it is your love
that feeds the hungry
masses the weak
and makes them
strong
that frees the
chained ones

it isyour love
that transcends

carefully speaking
your name
your love
brings forth
the beautiful ones

seeks out
the vanquished ones
settles the unsettled ones
calms the crazy ones
walks the legless
ones
your love transcends all
whether troubles
distress
prisons
or even death itself

your love
brought us all One
to the place of peace
and the schools of
love
itself

holiday Goddess ( new poem)

holiday Goddess
by Tim Kavi

seeing the advent
of promise
I want to know you
celebrate you
adore you . goddess

in your love
I will write poems
novels and sonnets
just for you

in your love
I will hold your heart
sacred in view

in my words
and actions
always a hug
never a shrug!

bending
blending
sending
rending
proper obedience
to the goddess
that is You

words can be powerful
pictures of expression
quiet actions
a lasting confession
of love

Holiday Goddess
your birthing
brings a happy news
stars fade from views
in your proclaiming
of a celestial love
a renaming
of hope

brought from above
