Yours To Keep (New Poem)

Yours to Keep (new poem)
by Tim Kavi

walking with you

I awakened from sleep

you led me to your truths

loving you deeply, I realized

I am yours to keep,

I uttered this to the world:

mothers of compassion

why do you weep?

gather the chicks in your wings

are there no willing souls

to waken from sleep?

have not your sayings

remained spoken?

or is the Goddess story

only now unfolding?

hasten their token!

mighty lessons

bring a mystic pleasure

while war abounds

you speak peace

with truce as your treasure!

sisters of compassion

bind the wounds

of the healing ground

of beings united

in being found

draw the water

out of cistern

and ocean

with graceful love

your only potion

lovers of compassion

do you not seek

a gentility of truth

in how you love

the truth to speak!

for only in that ground

of grace that I do wed

will I walk a certain

path, finally. a restful bed

has not your heart bled?

To hold all of us closer

is the answered prayers

of the doting Mothers

hearing all that is said

casting all of our cares?

do we not call out?

do we not cry out?

answer swiftly

the sacred call

to help, enlighten all!

No Star-Crossed Lovers (true love) (New Poem)

No Star-Crossed Lovers (true love) (New Poem)
by Tim Kavi

now its absolutely true
that the sun shines
whenever I see you
I feel the warmth
of your love and care
in your beauty, standing there.

not a thing to do
no star crossed lovers here
the sky turns blue
destiny is not undone
yuanfen is never broken
no tears, a lasting token.

for what was to be
was found in the divine love
that was planned for you and me
before the world was born
steps were taken
even if hearts were breaking.

there was only the meaning
found in shaken shadows
where faith was seeming
and hearts were dreaming
to help us find our way
that love would live to another day.

it is You,
Goddess transfixed
in the unshakeable
transfigured and begotten
turning in all this, due
when each first said: "I Love you"!

In Juno, We Sing A Redemption Song (New Poem)

In Juno, We Sing A Redemption Song (New Poem)

by Tim Kavi

Withered leaves,

Burdened and stained sleeves,

The Fall has become Winter,

The world has lost its center.

The streams wither,

Frozen majestic flows in time,

The snow comes late,

In a world filled with hate.

Cold hearts,

Shudder in isolation,

As Winter becomes Spring,

And a warm love it does bring.

In shadows cast by ancient skies,

Where whispers of the thunder rise,

Juno stands, a queen divine,

With grace that makes the stars align.

Her eyes, the depth of midnight seas,

Hold secrets carried by the breeze.

In every flower, in every sigh,

Her essence dances, soft and sly.

Protector of the sacred vow,

In love and promise, she allows

A bond that's forged in fire and light,

With every heart she takes to flight.

O Juno, guardian of the flame,

Who weaves the threads of joy and pain.

In your embrace, the world is whole,

A tapestry of heart and soul.

Beneath the moon's eternal gaze,

You guide us through life's winding maze.

Your laughter sparkles in the dawn,

An echo of the love reborn.

So let us raise our voices high,

In praise of you, celestial spy.

For in your strength, we find our way,

A beam that never fades away.

Gathering in your mist,

I am forever kissed,

The world awakes to your light,

saved by the coming of night.

To The World at Christmas 2025 (Revisited*) (New Poem)

To The World at Christmas (Revisited*) 2025

by Tim Kavi

Across the winter sky

a quiet star blossoms—

not in thunder,

but in the soft breath

of a mother

holding all creation

to her heart.

In the glory of all that is

She is the Light-Bearer,

the ancient promise,

the whisper that says:

even in cold seasons,

love stirs beneath the frost.

Tonight, the world pauses.

Hoping that war rests its weary hands,

Sorrow leans upon the doorframe,

and for a moment

we remember

we are one family

searching for warmth.

O luminous Mother of Peace,

wrap this trembling planet

in your shawl of dawn.

In the glory of all that is

Teach us again

how gentle strength can be,

how even a single candle

can send shadows fleeing.

And may every heart—

no matter how wounded—

feel the small spark within

begin to glow again,

bright enough

to guide us home.

This is the gift of Christmas:

that love returns,

again and again,

like a star reborn—

calling us

to rise with it.

To find ourselves again in grace and glory.

*POET'S AFTERWORD: I originally drafted an earlier version of a Christmas poem with this same title in 2013. The two poems are distinct, but the message is the same: hope and love, and a longing for peace. You can see the earlier poem here: https://timkavi.blogspot.com/2013/12/to-world-at-christmas-new-poem.html . Namaste! ~~TK

The March of Time (new poem)

The March of Time (new poem)

by Tim Kavi

relentless and cruel

the march of time

scratches the face

of all that lives

like a stream

becomes a river

opens into the ocean

and is taken up again

to the clouds

Nature claws a foothold

over the abyss

for the rain

brings a promise

of a flowery kiss

a drink

to the desert

what time has forgot?

eternal love

dotes like a constant

gardener and scribe

who writes down

the lines of Nature

like a poet

burns in consuming fire

aged and young

are both victims

and reverential fans

of discovery

of what is

promises to be

songs not yet written

and a love to be lived.

Baby, So Pretty You Are (song lyrics)

Baby, So Pretty You Are

Lyrics by Tim Kavi

Baby, so pretty you are

I can't believe my eyes

the angels fly near you

with soulish cries

Baby, so pretty you are

I can't believe my eyes

your love is telling truths

and never lies

I know your heart been meetin' me

Yeah baby, my heart is filled with your love

I know your heart been greetin' me

'cause baby, so pretty you are

I can't believe my eyes

Baby, so pretty you are

I can't believe my eyes

the angels fly near you

with soulish crie

And when the winds come blowing

baby I be knowin'

whose house I be going

cause baby, so pretty you are

I can't believe my eyes

And when the streets are churning

and the world be burning

I know where I'm turning

cause baby, so pretty you are

I can't believe my eyes

Baby, so pretty you are

I can't believe my eyes

the angels fly near you

with soulish cries

Baby, so pretty you are

I can't believe my eyes

the angels fly near you

with soulish cries.

~~Afterword: Did you ever just want to burst out into a song for your beloved? I did! And it started while my baby be sleepin; and I be creepin; outside her door, she brought me in and my heart she was keepin'! I am found, discovered, and had to sing this song! (except I'm super shy).~~TK

Just When We Start to Wonder (a poem of undying love) (New Poem)

Just When We Start to Wonder

(a poem of undying love)

by Tim Kavi

when often times

we look at the night sky

unhampered by urban lights

we see all the many stars

when we are walking along

the beach

or on a snowy path,

we are often unaware

of the great multitudes

that there is a uniqueness

in every flake of snow

or grain of sand

or a twinkling star!

So it is with our love

it fills us with wonder

and happy songs

and thankfulness to God

who is the author of love

and in your caring love

my sweet love, is the mightiest

of all Nature's demonstrations

of a caring love

of a doting love

a compassionate love

and an extraordinary love!

so just when we start to wonder

every day and in every way

our love schools us

and brings its happy uniqueness

to every day we awaken, and find

it again and again

saying: "I love You"

recreates a dutiful sense

and an ecstatic pleasure;

for when we show each other

our undying love

it is wonder-full.

Goddess in the Light (New Poem)

Goddess in the Light (New Poem)

by Tim Kavi

O radiant muse,

whose footstep wakes the sleeping stars,

your presence bends the winds with reverence—

you are more than myth,

you are motion,

you are meaning.

Crowned in moonbeams,

your eyes are galaxies that knew love

before time dared its ticking.

Even silence bows when you speak,

each syllable a sacred bell

calling truth to prayer.

Not marble, not mist,

but the fierce fire of becoming,

you are woman—

and therefore, you are the world

before it was named.

I dare not call you only beautiful—

for beauty, next to you,

is a candle before the sun.

You are creator,

healer,

keeper of the lost seasons—

goddess, not made by man

but remembered by soul.

When I touch your thought,

I kneel

not in worship of form

but of essence,

for your spirit is the altar

where wisdom wears a smile.

Teach me,

not to possess,

but to witness.

Not to conquer,

but to cherish.

Let me be

the echo to your breath,

the pen that knows its muse.

Eternal she,

who walks in both thunder and peace,

I write you not in ink—

but in awe.

In the inkless poetry of honor.

In the name that needs no name:

Goddess.

I dance in sacred night

move with cosmic wind

to greet you and meet you

standing ever

in a steadfast love.

Your resolute grace

moves the world

and moves my longing heart.

In Love's Power (new poem)

In Love's Power

by Tim Kavi

In love's power

we have the grip

that will sustain us every hour

In love's power

we have the provisions

of happiness in a shower

there was a lonely man

who, finding love's power

he was freed in love

shackles broke from his hand

there is a lovely woman

encountering each other

they spoke, they called out

made one in love's power

the quietness filled with music

poetry, and love

he beheld her in passion

life's greatest joy!

walking in love's power

there are no more tears

only happy contentment

in each other's arms!

In love's power

there is an eternity

of kisses, hugs

and listening hearts!

So let us love

with the power of love

let us love

powerfully.

Poet's Afterword: We cannot underestimate the power of love. It will surprise you, lighting your darkest hour. It will cozy up to you when you think you are alone and no one understands you. It will hold your hand all along life's road. In love, we can reach out to the Other, and in love, they can choose to reach back. Hugs, kisses, and delights are in the eyes of each other for their beloved!  It will keep us and sustain us. At the Malt Shop (new poem)

At the Malt Shop

by Tim Kavi

On Main Street

in my old hometown

there was a soda fountain malt shop place

that sort of reminded me of the movie

It's A Wonderful Life

It was still there as late as the 1970s

and part of the 1980s

but the kids from the 1950s

were all grown up now

and the counters and stools

were empty

but you could still go there

and get a cup of coffee

or a milkshake

and the old man who owned the place

wore a suit with a narrow black tie

his hair slicked back

horn-rimmed glasses

his adult son still worked with him

but at this point, it seemed a labor of love

forgotten love songs played on the jukebox

in a place where there seemed to be quiet

ghostly shadows juxtaposed on the walls

dancing in the natural light

that came through big picture windows

I would go there and order a cheeseburger

and it would take a few minutes as he cooked it from scratch

this was not a fast food place

and the owner would deliver it to my table

with a big basket of fries

and a check that looked like it was straight out of film noir

the place wasn't open much longer

but the cheese burgers , the Cokes,

the milkshakes were good

I saw my mother's saddle shoes hanging on the doorknob

when I left it that last time

I thanked the owner and his son

It was a time traveler's treat

My grandmother used to work here, I said

back in the 1950s

her nickname was 'Cookie' I said

he had a huge smile

and he had just as many memories as me

only mine were slightly different from his

but we can still make them, even today

(based on a real visit)

that some can only know virtually now...

or, if they take the time, on the silver screen.

There is Nothing, There is Someone (new poem)

There is Nothing, There is Someone (new poem)
by Tim Kavi

there is nothing-

ness you say

but I think there is something!

there is war

in the world

but I say we must never give up hope!

there is longing

and loneliness

in the machine minds

of reduced humanity.

until one cries out for connection

there comes a new connection

a springing forth

there is hate and prejudice

all over the world

but I say there! is where

love and binding together

must heal!

there is sickness and pandemic

breeding grounds of fear

there is where we must transcend,

comfort, even ourselves

to live again.

to never be forgotten

to arise from the destruction

with wings of hope

beyond despair!

so, that is something

that is human!

That is what I see there!

in such a world

stand strong in love

for each other

and by each other

we are all we have

each other

to see us, get us,

through

survival of the fittest?

survival of those that love!

Valentine's Day Special: Love Among the Ruins Poetry Reading Video

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY from Poet Tim Kavi!

Valentine's Day Special: Love Among the Ruins Poetry Reading Video

Happy Valentine's Day! Many of my poems are love poems that speak across different domains of love. This spiritual love poem pays respect to the archetypal goddess! In "Love Among the Ruins" we have a poem excerpted from one of my collections, performed by yours truly, in an outtake from the forthcoming film "Kup of Kavi." The Hindu term 'Hai' used in the poem is an invocation and calling to attention. Enjoy! ~~TK

Catch the Sparrow (New Poem)

Catch the Sparrow (New Poem)
by Tim Kavi

catch the sparrow
while they take wing
catch the sparrow
as they take flight
so you may rightfully sing

gentle breezes carry
across the night
in the destined moonlight
one finds a nesting place

catch the sparrow
because Winter they do bring
singing their songs with a happy heart
catch the sparrow
you will find an awesome thing

flying on wing spans
carried away and above
in your lover's love
there is a singer's space

catch the sparrow
tiny but forceful and strong
catch the sparrow
fill the Earth with your song

catch the sparrow
beautiful breasted ones
catch the sparrow
until all the days are done

fair feathered ones
I see your feet in the snow
but I always know
your song comforts me

wherever I go.

Of All The Times I Miss (new poem)

Of  All The Times I Miss (new poem)

by Tim Kavi

Of all the times

I miss the most

were moments like this

when running from it

I was overtaken by destiny's kiss

For there was no stopping

the times I so nobly miss

of seeing the light

in my mother's eyes

one last time

of seeing a smile

on my father's lips

as I spoke a rhyme

they are all gone now

but more than memories

are the guiding paths

of meaning and existence

that we must make

by holding a newborn baby

in our arms

of speaking love

to family, to the undenying

Other that we allowed

in our hearts to make a home

and to sing and hope

for better times

and what we could do

become in love

a certain history

of what we had hoped

of loves never forgot

and loves we make today

of things liked

and esteemed

and walking through

valleys of despair and grief

we find new futures

we have but dreamed.

afterward: to the world with love, there is a future beyond our losses

and grief. There is the sanctuary of hope and the power of love.~~TK

Obscurity (new poem)

Obscurity (new poem)
by Tim Kavi

a message in a bottle

swam the darkened sea

landed on a sandy shore

the contents therein

hopelessly dated

a voice, daring to speak

in a galaxy of voices

an atom sparked in a shell

uncertainty making

no exact measurements possible

yet I shall speak

I shall still dare to exist

making choices no others can make,

quaking in fear, daring to utter

but only fading

how much does obscurity

diminish what the artist says,

screeching like a bat out of hell,

pronouncing like an angel,

scrolls of holy writ,

will there be no hearers?

will there be no readers?

yet I speak, are my words not worthy?

paragraphs, but only monologue?

I want dialogue!

So, I pray draw closer

as my voice withers with whispers

my throat is parched,

I long  for the smooth drinking

of words uttered "well" enough

prose that gets your attention

you dare to deem it so worthy?

based only on who or what you think?

of who I am, or what I have said,

but we are completely only human,

transfixed and far apart,

knowing now, that our lives

are so valuable, wanting meaning

to be seen again, we search

for one another (post-pandemic)

let us turn to the Other,

speaking gentle words of esteem

even kindness and affinity

for all others, we come with

sure words of a brave love.

I only hope we hear, we read,

we esteem each other!

speech acts of sincere meaning

lost in nighttime's dark scheming,

longing for the light,

we can find each other

we can build again

darkened corners of unlit

cityscapes, reduced to rubble

avoiding death, and other trouble,

we will dance again

you shall see in the light

shaking the dust off

we will go to school again

and enjoy the fruits of our labors,

the happiness of each other

finding that obscurity

was only an illusion

a feigned sense of all that was

into the unmistakable joy of what is.

Holiday Prayer (new poem)

Holiday Prayer (New Poem)

by Tim Kavi

in my heart

rises a prayer for the world

it is not just from my heart

but on my lips

as no prayer

has ever been uttered

as no longing

intercessory yearnings

flew to a heavenly throne

not just for peace

and good will

not just social justice

for all

not just for love

to those who feel unloved

joy to those

who are sad or feeling lost

but for health

and safety

a yearning, for those

who have cried out

may angel's wings

carry you to the place

where eagles soar

far above

from all life's troubles

where they will look small

and finally are brought low

in the new year

and to the plague's own demise

we say to the world

as humankind

we will rise

we will rise!

In Times Like This (new poem)

IN TIMES LIKE THIS (New Poem)
by Tim Kavi

in times like this, we feel so afraid
but then I come home to your love
and feel the comforts you've made

while the lights of the universe
shine so bright; in this darkened night,
when I see you, my fears disperse

there need not be any fear
when the love of my life
is so near

in the gentle repose
there is a stillness of peace
in memories of those

many nights of your kisses
bringing sudden healing
to all the world's remisses

hope in your arms tonight
where all troubles forgotten
all wrongs are made right

asleep in your arms tonight.

Author's note: while the coronavirus ravages the world, this song arose from the kisses of my lovely wife!~~TK

white wings ( A valentine's day poem for the angels sent ones who bring us love)

white wings
by Tim Kavi

sweet flight
comes to abide near my heart
near me in darkness
waves crashing
in moonlit night

sweet kisses
words whispered softly
in my nurtured ears
when love departs
the heart misses

back the next day
growing near
footsteps sound like twitters
skittering across the icy branches
of love's delay

there is a drawing near
two hearts beat
as love lights the sure path
across the meadowed Spring
love has found its way here.
