Seated Next to You (New Poem)

Seated Next to You
by Tim Kavi

seeing your beauty
finer than what adorns
any mortal face
domestic silver; crystal
china on the quilted
silken covered place

I smiled at You
Goddess
not wanting; daring
to see your eyes
darting like Durga
really deeply caring

frightened; for I
am mortal; with blood
coursing through veins
mind seems only brain
but I know you are More
I have sung your sacred names

so many times
and places before
pilgrims climbed this road
to sit at this table
Table in The Wilderness
Manna to find some abode

seated with You
Goddess
in heavenly places
is to see you gowned
in the majestic celestial
ballroom; angels abound

ministry to You
is my call
I hear your whispered
names.

simple things (new poem)

simple things
by Tim Kavi

simple things
are just a few words
but the words
are full of meaning

simple things
are behaviors that
offered to the masses
lead you to great mission

or maybe
just to love
and be loved?

did you ever see
a smile that lit up your world?
felt a hug that you knew
afterwards no matter what

everything would be ok?
swirls of wind did not
steal your soul
although it took all you had

that you would love again
that you would live again
did you ever see
a glance, no a looking
that said something to you

that besought you?
what is your answer
to the simple things
that show the suffering

in the world?

is it only the humble
open heart
to love back
to give something
to answer a call

the best you could
but with everything you are
these are the simple things
everywhere you go today
needing responses

to walk that way
for it always leads
to Nature
to the human
the human heart

and to compassion.

Love Singers (New Poem)

Love Singers

by Tim Kavi

your songs fill the air
with wonderful
feelings never felt
before;

no, not anywhere

except in Heaven
where your choirs
assemble
admiring the sounds
escaping your lips

beautiful wafting
currents of melody
exalt the spirits
lifting up blissful
moments there

passion
and love
dancing in firelight
reflections of moon
on the beach
where flames of love
light up the night

eyes of lovers
swoon

graceful steps
on the ballroom floor

majestic fountains
of forever youth
whenever our special songs
fill the air

fluttering rosy airships
sweet words of love

bring me home
on their wings to you

sweet calls of love
guide me home
even when the darkness
shuts out the heart

I grope
to find my way
but in the distance
the love songs
guide me back
to the wonders of love

somehow love singers
reach through darkest night
bringing hope
in their golden
notes of soothing
white light

for there
in the lingering notes
I come to you

where in the sweet
sounds of your soul
I am warmed
loved
and never alone.

Poet's Afterword:  Music as sure as anything is a sweet sound of love.  And in no other art form has more been written and sung about regarding all the glories and even the pitfalls of love.  I have selected some of my favorite love songs on a playlist that you can sample at Youtube just by clicking this link . More About Goddesses: My Encounter with the Benevolent Mother--Ma Durga (Essay)

More About Goddesses: My Encounter with the Benevolent Mother--Ma Durga (Essay) by Tim Kavi

Although there are different manifestations of  the Hindu goddess Ma Durga, such as Lakshami, Parvati, and Durga herself , it is my encounter with Ma Durga as a mother figure that has made a lasting impression upon me.

For as she gathers those that need help in her arms of compassion, and leads them gently from times of trouble, her caring is so apparent. For it is as a gentle mother and caring one that She leads me to safety and protection that resonates so deeply within me again and again. For as we humans well know, we needn't go looking for troubles, sometimes they will find us!  Never do we need the touch and care of a friend more, a companion, a brother or sister in dialogue--the caring of family and loved ones--as it is then that the gentle leading of the archetypal Mother Goddess is ever needed!

And thank goodness, when called upon She arises, and gathers us in Her arms.  And yet, She does not wait to be called upon--for like any good Mother she responds to our distress.

Her eyes are certainly seeking, searching, and settling upon those in times of trouble, they are gentle, reassuring, and if need be, drawing us to attention.

Her smile is as the dripping honey on the lotus.  She warms the hearts of all India, and the world.

This tiger riding Goddess is the ultimate mother!

Several years ago, I had a deeply meaningful and especially vivid dream about Ma Durga.  I  knew right away in my dream who she was and what the dream was about.  I could tell the woman in the dream was Ma Durga because of her attire, her Goddess face, and those eyes that only Ma Durga has!

Anyway, in this dream that I readily recalled upon sudden awakening at its conclusion, the events went like this.  I entered a supermarket, and I felt like I was lost from someone, or had gone ahead of someone.  But I also felt ashamed, like I was 'in trouble', or had done something that I felt 'stupid' about. Sort of like a kid who had done something wrong, but didn't want his parents to know. I was a grown man in the dream however.

So I went down the shopping aisles filled with all sorts of foods and plenty of them. I came upon the glass enclosed cold storage units, the units where they keep frozen packaged products like pizzas, ice cream, frozen dinners, etc.  Well, I climbed up on top of one of these units, and laid down flat on my back. I laid down as flat as I could, so as not to be readily or easily seen by anyone who might enter the store or was walking nearby. From where I was, I could turn my head and see the main entry of the store however.

So for some reason, I turned my head towards the entry doors. It was if I was waiting for someone, anticipating someone coming, but I didn't know for sure who it would be.

Suddenly, I saw Ma Durga come through the doors.  She was walking towards my location! I tried to melt into the metal of the casing so as not to be seen. But there was to be no hiding, as she lovingly approached.  She was a fully radiant being, and was smiling as she approached, her eyes taking in everything around her. As she came closer, she grew and magically became taller.  As she got to where I was, she was now taller than the enclosures, and easily saw me.

She looked at me with so much love and acceptance, my heart melted. It was if her eyes could see everything about me, accepted me, forgave all my troubles, or made them all vanish in the manifestation of Her power. In that one look, was all this and much more instantaneously. Love, acceptance, forgiveness, reassurance.

She calmly put her hands on her hips, looked into my eyes with her Ma Durga Eyes, and She said: "Well, are you coming? Get down from there and follow me!"

I hopped down and immediately left with her out of the store with all of its materialism and wealth, and happily followed Her.  The joy and relief was enormous! I then awoke with a start.

This dream deeply resonated with me, although I knew I was a mature man in the dream, her loving approach to me elicited both a son like sense, and also a childlike sense.  I knew I had done something, and felt like I might be in trouble.  So I was trying hard to hide from 'Mom'.

Still, when Ma Durga 'found' me, I was overcome by several feelings at once, love, acceptance, and reassurance. I expected wrath, but got deep love. I also knew I was totally safe with her, protected, and that all my troubles were solved and no longer as important as I had thought they were. So I was eager and readily able to hop down and follow her out of the store.  Happily returning to everyday life and then, transcending the world, protected by the Goddess, I suddenly awoke with this realization deeply embedded in my consciousness.

It was a wonderful experience, and although some people think dreaming is just the firing of neurons, that dream was one of the most meaningful dreams I've ever had.~~TK

Poet's afterword:  Later, I wrote a poem called Ma Durga's Eyes.  Although it could never capture the true magnificence of Her eyes, it is a step in that direction. It is one of the most popular poems on my blog and can be read here: Ma Durga's Eyes (the poem)

Also, as I write this, the significance of the calendar in regards to Ma Durga cannot be overlooked.  We are just now in the beginning of the Hindu holiday, Navratri, also known as Durga Puja, where all over India and the world,  Ma Durga is celebrated in her various manifestations across Nine Nights of  bliss. ~~TK

And now it is April 2013, and we are on the eve of Vasant Navratri again and as India, Indians, and Hindus all over the world prepare to celebrate Nine Nights of Celebrations of Goddesses; I am again reminded of my blog entries about the Goddess, Ma Durga.  Including (not linked last time) my newer "More About Goddesses column that features Mahadevi Durga .~~TK

Love is Far Apart (New Poem)

Love is Far Apart
by Tim Kavi

I love you dear one
hold me in your heart and arms there tonight
I live in your dreams
Yet kiss you with a true kiss

broken and splintered
the shrines seem abandoned
at the top of the hill
but I am running
as my strongest act of will

seeking you
I fall on my face many times
you always pick me up with your grace
In your shining eyes
are the light of ten thousand
Yoginis

I call you by name
among the many; there is only the one
Siddharajni
You do not answer me

But I know you will
I feel your love's embracing
Across time's burning sands
my bare feet race
to desert places
mountain tops with burning fire

Shadows dancing
Your Voices
and many arms of compassion, just are
Chastening my hurried love
to wait for a stronger surety still
When I see you then I will know
there was never any hurriedness
to Your love

For love is
sometimes far apart.

History (New Poem)

History
by Tim Kavi

oceans of blue green
Quantum waves collapsed
Schrodinger's cat died in the box
harbingers of doubt
in the flavored purpose

black and brown
are the eyes of You
lips full and parted
gentle breaths resting
escape the sleeping You

In the face of marching
defiant of time
empires go to sand
while we have kisses in the dark
sweet love's embrace
are our telling of secrets
all over the place

Finally, no more hidden hearts
all is known, uncovered and true
Revealed Goddess
patriarchy is doomed
with You fully in view

no reason for mystery
this is the neverending recurring tale
simple and complex
the untwisting dialectic of reason
because You are history.

Eyes Behind the Veil (new poem)

Eyes Behind the Veil
by Tim Kavi

In the eyes behind the veil
there is only the mystery of you
your soul dances
waits to be revealed

beholding You
your third eye darts
from face to face
we are falling to bliss

I cannot hold you
as I can barely and just now
see you, seek your kiss

I beseech you
wait for me
wait for me
so that my mortal love
may be caught
by your ongoing never ending
immortal love

for in you I am freed

and in your kiss
there is the longing
of the longtime lonely one
seeking her counterpart

the dancing free man
freed in your love
holding you
at last

we are both free
eternal flight
escapes this body's night

flying to where the soul
is not in a tent
and the face is not
behind a hidden wall

as the curtain is rent
I am in
the Holy of Holies
which is just you
and your arms

You
and your love

as the veil is cast off
and I see you
eye to eye

I am smelling your fragrance
it is natural
and like the wind
whispering your name

Shekinah
I utter as you move me
for I am colored
by your purple
clouds
pillars of smoke and fire

for your beauty is
unspeakable glory to glory
face to face
moved by your many arms
that embrace me from every place

singing rocks
cascading hills
stretch to the horizon
of greeting
tomorrow or yesterday
I look forward to
meeting

there is only You.

Expressive Eyes (New Poem)

Expressive Eyes
by Tim Kavi

Expressive eyes
deep oceans, swimming currents of love
your eyes are the sky of my horizon
the strength of my weakness
the passion of compassion
deep and yet so close
I feel your peace.

I see your soul there
it is lit up in the night of modern existence
drawing me, calling me to be free
in your love.

your eyes are so alive
with love, shining so bright
they will carry me back and forth
like a leafy sailboat on your love
floating on the deep waters
that calls me to harbor
safe and sound with you.

And when I see your eyelids closed
I still feel your eyes of love
all around me
when you are sleeping they still watch
over me
and when they open I see such beauty
that I am nearly overcome.

Seeing Eyes (New Poem)

Seeing Eyes
by Tim Kavi

if a poet
looked
in her eyes

if a poet
listened
to her heart

felt the Spring
in her
life giving
breath

there would only
be love
there would only
only be life

and in that
is no death

at all

then hasten
the day
I see
you coming

hasten the
music
I hear you
singing

for what love
is that
you are
bringing?

if a poet
saw you standing
there

what would
those eyes see?

shining
living
being

beauty
in your own right

music
to his own sight

filling
every nook
in space

filling
every book
in grace

adorned
by his words
yet
revealed
in your own
majesty

if a poet
saw you
standing there.

Romantic Swoons (New Poem)

Romantic Swoons
by Tim Kavi

breathless
no strength to tarry
in my wait for you
I soon realized
your love had invaded
my heart
As I reached the top of the hill

You were there
coaching me
soothing me
of all my hurts and fears

how could I not call to you?
calling out many years

lonely seeking nights
and finding you
in the days of your love?

until a great
and mighty wave
of love made our love

collapsed our love
into one expression

days and nights
you and me
until quietly
there was only
a lasting hug

wherever I went
alive in your eyes

I saw you standing there

goddess revealed

as sure as Kwan Yin
compassionate arms reaching
speaking breeching seeking

breaking
rendering in two
all the cultural walls within

until it was only Our love
that mysteries
held in swoon

brought forth fruit
and found only to
be ever present all the time
never missing really
never empty
never rendered

to see it and know
only it has ultimately mattered.

Remember (New Poem)

Remember
by Tim Kavi

the speaking
Goddess said
remember you
are my love

I am your bread!

I said:
how can I forget ?

you are like the rain
to the desert
the snow to the river

the wind to the long
lost sail
and the love
to the lovelost seeker

in the wind I hear
your words
in my soul
my obligation

to love you
with my heart
mind
body and soul

to look you
in the eyes
and see your Goddess
Nature

is to only
quake in holy fear
at the arising
and overpowering
love

that has come
to set me free.

cubeland (new poem)

cubeland
by tim kavi

cubeland
lost connections
but I am
still there

intersecting lines
perfectly squared
the secrets of the heart
are bared

until calling
I hear your voice
across all dimensions
calling in 5 5 5
there is only
perfection
in your heart beating
love

bending time
each fading light
is a different color
scheme
like Rubik's Cube
the search
for solutions
in your eyes
did gleam
but spoken
once
twice
in a dream

I know I am in cubeland
your finest design
happy to be
held there
in the real
in the tangible
shape of things
to come

I am made whole
in your love.

soft eyes (new poem)

soft eyes
by Tim Kavi

soft eyes
your sweet lingering
ways
are soothing
paths to
a great everlasting
kiss

that breathes
out
enlightenment

your confident speech
fills my universe
with warm sighs

and in the blanket covering both of us
there is no disguise

of your sweet
soft eyes

and in the cosmic replies
there is always
the music
of a thousand
seeking searching
ways to see
and to know love

if one just looks
if one just is
and dares to let
her light shine

there is beaming
truth so wise

always behind
those beautiful
soft eyes.

Poet's Suggestion: If you liked this poem, there is another poem on this blog, just about a woman's eyes. Click Here.   Afterword:  This poem is about a shy woman (stanza 7) hence the tentative photo, but still the endearing soft eyes.

Ma Durga's Eyes (new poem)

Ma Durga’s Eyes
by Tim Kavi
Ma Durga’s Eyes
have over all time
cried thousands of cries
and uttered thousands of sighs

but none are more beautiful than my love's

her eyes have lit a thousand ships
home to harbor
have touched my lips
across many trips

her eyes are so wise.

Ma Durga’s Eyes
I need you so
to them I always go
to see the world
and each other.

there are no other eyes I know
I will return again and again
to her heart to go.

My love's eyes
are Ma Durga’s Eyes
her heart so true
that the eyes are all telling
of her many stories
from the countryside are yelling
out of the rocks and hills
the majestic spills
of water cascading down the falls
while the rest of the world waits in their alls
we hear the love in her calls.

Ma Durga’s Eyes of my love
of yesteryear and then
I knew them before
somehow
on another shore
but when I saw them again
her Ma Durga’s Eyes were different than then
her eyes are so wise.

Ma Durga’s Eyes
I need you so
to them I always go
to see the world
and each other.

my lovely Sweet love
Ma Durga’s Eyes
light where we have ever been
and they touch my heart so
where the Himalayan winds blow
and the currents of Ganges do flow

she is ever present in the wind
against the wind
she stands still

her eyes are so wise.

Ma Durga’s Eyes
I need you so
to them I always go
to see the world
and each other.

Ma Durga’s Eyes through history
tell many stories
they begin and end with my lovely love.

sea breeze (new poem)

sea breeze
by Tim Kavi

sea breeze
gentle rose fragrance
goddess gowns
dance in soft caress
midnight romance

her smile
said to approach
her

I moved quickly
it might be the only
and last chance

sweet Chinese eyes
lapped in starlight
shone in her love

she sighed
and the waves crashed

her gown flapped
in the breeze

I beheld her beauty
I turned to kiss her
and it was your smile that met
my lips.

The Kiss of You (new poem)

The Kiss of You
by Li Jili 李吉利 ( a poem that celebrates Chinese Valentine's Day 8/6/2011)

kiss you sweetly
the gently sun
shines
in your eyes

smiling lips
hold promises
of our lasting
loves

until the universal
orb
is cosmic star shine's
gleen

for this love is
unearthly
above the fixed orb
'tis seen

heavenly

the kiss of you
eternal
sheen

harvested by those
searching
yet never found

I am the lucky one
that saw you
and did glean

that bounty
of your love

every day
every moment
every love
of yours

is the Golden mean.

"Woman's Eyes" (short poem)

"Woman's Eyes"
by Tim Kavi

eyes of the enchantress
others must answer in truth

eyes of a goddess
lit up by love's mercy
kindness and compassion

who can help but be
touched
and moved

to respond in dialogue
with open arms
to say I and Thou!

Poet's Suggestion:  IF you liked this poem, I also penned another special poem about a woman and her pretty eyes-- 'Soft Eyes'-- Click Here to view it.
