Holiday Prayer (new poem)

Holiday Prayer (New Poem)

by Tim Kavi

in my heart

rises a prayer for the world

it is not just from my heart

but on my lips

as no prayer

has ever been uttered

as no longing

intercessory yearnings

flew to a heavenly throne

not just for peace

and good will

not just social justice

for all

not just for love

to those who feel unloved

joy to those

who are sad or feeling lost

but for health

and safety

a yearning, for those

who have cried out

may angel's wings

carry you to the place

where eagles soar

far above

from all life's troubles

where they will look small

and finally are brought low

in the new year

and to the plague's own demise

we say to the world

as humankind

we will rise

we will rise!

The Lighthouse (new poem)

The Lighthouse (new poem)

by Tim Kavi

walking among the parsecs that stretched

for miles across the horizon

there was the resolute resounding

of a lighthouse calling me always

back to home

whether choppy seas of wandering

crafts briefly lost in the foggy night

gathered hopes for their approach

to the shorey home's delight

away from the unsettling speech

of those sirens who called out

in the unconscious darkness of the sea

bidding all that sail a place to go to

in the twinkling starlight

a compass back to safe harbors

I walked like one of those ships

reeling towards my life

going by far too quickly now

there is in the shadows lurking

a fearful sight

meeting myself in the cosmic night.
