Holiday Prayer (new poem)

Holiday Prayer (New Poem)

by Tim Kavi

in my heart

rises a prayer for the world

it is not just from my heart

but on my lips

as no prayer

has ever been uttered

as no longing

intercessory yearnings

flew to a heavenly throne

not just for peace

and good will

not just social justice

for all

not just for love

to those who feel unloved

joy to those

who are sad or feeling lost

but for health

and safety

a yearning, for those

who have cried out

may angel's wings

carry you to the place

where eagles soar

far above

from all life's troubles

where they will look small

and finally are brought low

in the new year

and to the plague's own demise

we say to the world

as humankind

we will rise

we will rise!

Meetings with the Promise of Any New Year (Day or Moment or Minute) (new poem)

Meetings with the Promise of Any New Year (Day or Moment or Minute)by Tim Kavi

across the distance/
things long ago forgot/
there is a meeting/
of what the future/
has brought/

lessons in time/
reflections of past/
truth in memories/
sufferings intense/
and joys unforgot/

there is/
hope in the New Year/
of what we planned/
for our futures/
in thought/

so speed forward/
never give up hope/
if you want change/
bring it and sing it/
your refrain has wrought/

across the widened gulf/
of meeting the other/
undisclosed surprise/
of the applied/
learnings you've got/.

Crying in the Night (New Poem)

Crying in the Night
by Tim Kavi

screeching in the night
calling out in darkness
searching the hidden
for any hope
of dawning light

crying

the Owl of Athena
looks over the fields
the fields of the world
are stained
crimson with the blood
of many peoples
from many lands

She is ashamed
at what is done in many names
adds to the horror
of the great many acts
of fear and terror
the dismantling of honor

She says
Intolerance is Murder
the council of elders
replies with judgmental sighs
must we tolerate evil?

She says
there is still a way
to define what something is
when one finds the words to say
any doctrine
teaching far and wide

that murder is right
that stealing from another
killing the heart of the Other
chaining the spirits
of those who long to be free

is justifiable

then we know what is evil
and in all cases who or what
can be truly not tolerated
and must be abolished
in the hearts of all

who joined in community
who empowering the disenfranchised
realize what is wrong
or what is right

makes the day bring light

So the Owl of Athena
blinks her eyes at what She sees
in the darkened night

she will still watch the world
as a New Year approaches
but taking hold of hope
and changes in our hearts
see to it that She need not abandon Earth
in Her celestial flight.
