Goddess in a Garden (The First Day of Spring) (new poem)

Goddess in a Garden

by Tim Kavi

Goddess in a Garden

there she sits!
amidst the plantings
and the nurtured young

the beautiful flowers
and the growing sustenance
that the world needs

for longevity and peace
She stands majestic
glorious Kwan Yin

sitting upon a lotus
I know I saw her there
adorned with green leaves

cushioned by soft earth
tilled and touched by love
by gardener hands complete

there she lies!
every woman in the world
a goddess in a garden.

MY Grandma the Poet: Gets Published With Her First Collection. Publication Announcement!

MY Grandma the Poet: Gets Published With Her First Collection. Publication Announcement! (Foreword by Tim Kavi & Liz Kellebrew).

Today is my Grandmother's 122nd birthday. She was a huge influence on me, creating her own poetry over the years, something I've celebrated and written about on my blog on multiple occasions, always on February 23rd, with entries titled: 'My Grandma the Poet.' Well, today on her birthday,  I am proud to announce that her first poetry collection has been published posthumously. I had the honor of co-writing the Foreword along with my daughter. All three of us are published poets (grandma, just now) and this volume includes poems from all of us, making it a true multigenerational work! Heartland: Poems from the Heart is a moving collection of poems by my grandmother that celebrates family life, resilience, and dealing with wartime loss and grief--as she migrated from a small homestead in Missouri to the Pacific Northwest.  Heartland-- is available on a pre-order basis until tomorrow when it goes live!

My Grandma the Poet: Revisited (Guest Poem by Lura Newland: Your Rainbow)

Tim Kavi with his grandmother, Lura Newland @ 1978

Today would be my grandma's 121st birthday. I've written about her before in several posts on different birthdates. Here's one link. When I was very very young, grandma used to write her poems and she would encourage me to do so along with her. She was a profound influence on me in many ways. I come from a line of poets, going back generations; my great grandfather (grandma's dad), my grandmother, my mother, and then me, and now, my daughter! My publisher has accepted a collection of poems that will be published of my grandma's work. This collection will be called Heartland: Poems from the Heart by Lura Newland. (The following poem is about the gardens that she planted with my grandfather every year, and how tending to their beautiful garden caused a beautiful rainbow!  A perfect poem as we start to contemplate spring. :-)).~~TK

Your Rainbow (poem)
by Lura M. Newland

A posie here and a daisy there
Lillies and roses and 'mums everywhere.

Who planted them there but he and you,
That's what made the beauty as the garden grew.

Beauty in God's hand with love he gave,
Brought out in the flowers you worked to save.

Flowers of all sizes, colors so rare,
They looked so beautiful planted there.

They need not be spaced so far apart,
Each little root was a hunk of your heart.

A wee little hunk that grew so big,
When you really did get down to dig.

The soil is so rich with joy and love,
When watered with teardrops from above.

Teardrops, like diamonds, from Heaven did fall,
To make the rainbow from the colors all.

There's a rainbow in your garden plot,
A painter's Glory and God's Beauty Spot.

God needed help to make it that way,
So the posies took over by blooming each day

You had to put in your two-bits worth,
By planting and digging and coaxing Mother Earth.

You wielded the rake and used the hoe,
To make perfect, each tiny little row.

The row could be long, deep, or a little short,
Then scattered with seeds of all sorts.

Then a few days of sunshine, then rain,
The Beauty paid off for all the pain.

The pain from stooping on bended knees,
No one else would have flowers like these.

Now let us sit back and count up the score,
See what we have we didn't have before.

We see posies, joy, beauty and love,
Sunshine and teardrops from Heaven above.

That's what made that garden so beautiful one day,
When it turned the posies into God's Bouquet.

God's Bouquet to have and to hold,
The Rainbow of colors and the pot of gold.

Teardrops helped posies to fill your garden, you know,
With love, woven into God's Bouquet and Your Rainbow.

Gaia (new poem)

GAIA (new poem)by Tim Kavi

birdsong
rain's pitter-patter
children ask
plants; why
do you grow?

the sweet refrain
only calls
GAIA to see
what's the matter.

I Looked At (new poem)

I LOOKED AT (New Poem)
by Tim Kavi

I looked at
water coming forth
from the rocks
streaming down
the mountainside
becoming a stream
a river
and then a mighty ocean

I looked at
the harbored life
living so small
I could not see
but still believed
becoming greater
swimming lives
across eternity's tide

I looked at
temples burning
incense in blossoms
of lovely surprise
becoming deities
in the smoke
that did arise
winged ministries fly

I looked at
my planet; hoping
for love to save it
some are sleeping
to garden it
to appreciate
Gaia's keeping
to nurture it

I looked at
starry skies
saw many suns
blinking in the night
realizing cosmic scale's
awesome humbling
powers; across the
vast cosmos

I looked at
me; and then You
saw a thunderous
glory in the meeting
of the between
You and I
face to face
in every place

where souls are greeting.

Garden's Delight (new poem)

Garden's Delight (Poem)
by Tim Kavi

The beauty of flowers
illuminate dusty corridors
of garden paths in my mind
their living love shines

wavelike webs hang on
forested branches of green
protecting the lovely living
things that move across forest floors

into lanes of memories
clearly defined and refined
by history's marching dialectic
across all time

on the porch, she looks
like Gaia, a grandmother sees
the sprouting earthy designs
she resigns to peace, for a grandma's love

is the garden's delight.

afterword: on the first day of Spring a poem about gardens and the gardeners of Nature in the ever tending wisdom of the ancient goddess and elder wisdom.~TK
