Shooting is Nearing Conclusion on "Kup of Kavi" starring Tim Kavi
![]() |
| Kavi on the set of Kup of Kavi in Rehearsal |
Yes, yours truly is being filmed in a documentary-type film that also has comedic elements. I'll be in costume as Kavi the Cowboy, Kavi the retro performer, and Tim Kavi the poet, reading some of my poetry, doing freestyle poems, and spouting mystical jabber!
The shoot has been going on for a couple of weeks now, and it is set to conclude on Saturday, Nov. 12th when we will finish filming on location. It has been a nerve-wracking, yet very fun, experience! Hope you will enjoy the small film when it comes out. Thanks to TiLu Press, TiLu Film, and Director Ben Lee for making KUP OF KAVI happen. Thanks to the entire crew!
Outtakes from Kup of Kavi the Movie--will also be coming soon! ~~TK

From MY Heart to Yours: The Wandering Poet Goes Home
Dear Readers, Friends, and Family:
It is not often that one comes before others without any pretensions, decorum or poetic words; with just a message straight from my heart to yours. Some of you might not have known this, or might be surprised to hear it, but for over two years I have been away from my homeland, my kids, my job, and my family and friends there. At first, I have traversed foreign lands here in China. Anyway I am happy to report I will be returning home some time in the next three or four months.
I certainly appreciate every one who has stopped by here on this blog since 2008 from all over the world. (Before this blog I wrote poetry for three years on MySpace and there was quite a few of the same readers who used to visit my poetry there that have come here). I appreciate all the comments, and those that have read my words here, or purchased my books. Thank you so much. While I was gone from home I visited places and abodes of the Goddess in China and elsewhere, (there will be even more More About Goddesses columns about some of those places), I drafted numerous poems here on this blog, and finished five poetry collections, three were published since I have been away from home, and I have had my share of adventures. But to be in a foreign land, is not the heartland of home.
From my heart to yours, I appreciate you all so much, but it is time for this poet to go back home. To my kids, and my family, and my friends back home, I have missed you all so very much. You have no idea. I have daily longed to see the hills of home, and the freedoms my homeland has to offer. But I want to reassure my readers that my poems will continue just as they happened before I ever left home and will keep on happening after I return.
My sense of dedication to my art and poetic word that burns and flows in my heart cannot ever be stopped or silenced. I struggle, arms linked with those that are downtrodden, oppressed, and remain unfree. I long for women to be treated properly all over the world, and for the world to recognize the folly of unbridled patriarchy. I will not stop writing here and in my future collections. But it is time to go home.... and that will be happening very soon. Thank you for your prayers and support which makes it all happen.

Tim Kavi Starts New Year with Latest Publication
by Tim Kavi
Hello, All! First of all, a very Happy New Year to each and every one of you! I hope that your New Year brings you health, prosperity, and happiness!
My New Year began less conspicuously than I imagined with the publication of Athena: Queen of the Air by John Ruskin, on January 1,2013 from TiLu Press. This work, an updated and annotated version from an 1869 work, includes new material for modern readers who are interested in Greek mythology, mythology, or Goddess themes and motifs. In particular, the book talks about the Goddess Athena in great detail. My essay about Athena is one of the three forewords in the 2013 edition of this book. I am honored by the inclusion.
My essay: 'Athena: Greek Goddess of Wisdom and War' was one of my blog entries here last May. You can click here to read it. I suppose this amounts to a disclosure, as my foreword (only one of three in the book) is reprinted with my permission for the book. I assure you that there is much more in this book that makes it worthwhile to read if you are a fan of goddesses, Greek Art and Mythology, mythology, and art criticism in general. I really hope readers of both works (my blog and the book) don't mind this fact that my Foreword is published in both places. To me, it is simply about getting the message out to as many readers as possible.
I enjoyed reading this eBook, and if you're interested in Goddesses too, I think you'll enjoy it just like I did! I certainly learned a lot about Athena that I never knew before! The book also contains an introduction that covers much background about John Ruskin, Athena, Ruskin's Athena and information about the 2013 edition. Other new annotated material (never before published anywhere) includes an original essay on Athena by Kelli M. Webert titled: 'Athena: Queen of the Air and Breath of Inspiration' and finally, a chapter titled: 'A Brief Literary Biography of John Ruskin'.
Overall, the book 'Athena: Queen of the Air' is an interesting work of Greek Mythology and art criticism that discusses the Goddess Athena in great detail. I hope you will enjoy it!
From the Book Blurb:
"Very thorough, and inspiring, Ruskin, ever the Victorian Age's greatest art critic, utters praise to Athena, and in doing so, speaks some of the most poetic words ever used in English to describe the goddess."--Tim Kavi, Poet
"And so the Spirit of the Air is put into, and upon, this created form; and it becomes, through twenty centuries, the symbol of divine help, descending, as the Fire, to speak, but as the Dove, to bless."---John Ruskin

More About Goddesses: My Encounter with the Benevolent Mother--Ma Durga (Essay)
More About Goddesses: My Encounter with the Benevolent Mother--Ma Durga (Essay) by Tim Kavi
Although there are different manifestations of the Hindu goddess Ma Durga, such as Lakshami, Parvati, and Durga herself , it is my encounter with Ma Durga as a mother figure that has made a lasting impression upon me.
For as she gathers those that need help in her arms of compassion, and leads them gently from times of trouble, her caring is so apparent. For it is as a gentle mother and caring one that She leads me to safety and protection that resonates so deeply within me again and again. For as we humans well know, we needn't go looking for troubles, sometimes they will find us! Never do we need the touch and care of a friend more, a companion, a brother or sister in dialogue--the caring of family and loved ones--as it is then that the gentle leading of the archetypal Mother Goddess is ever needed!
And thank goodness, when called upon She arises, and gathers us in Her arms. And yet, She does not wait to be called upon--for like any good Mother she responds to our distress.
Her eyes are certainly seeking, searching, and settling upon those in times of trouble, they are gentle, reassuring, and if need be, drawing us to attention.
Her smile is as the dripping honey on the lotus. She warms the hearts of all India, and the world.
This tiger riding Goddess is the ultimate mother!
Several years ago, I had a deeply meaningful and especially vivid dream about Ma Durga. I knew right away in my dream who she was and what the dream was about. I could tell the woman in the dream was Ma Durga because of her attire, her Goddess face, and those eyes that only Ma Durga has!
Anyway, in this dream that I readily recalled upon sudden awakening at its conclusion, the events went like this. I entered a supermarket, and I felt like I was lost from someone, or had gone ahead of someone. But I also felt ashamed, like I was 'in trouble', or had done something that I felt 'stupid' about. Sort of like a kid who had done something wrong, but didn't want his parents to know. I was a grown man in the dream however.
So I went down the shopping aisles filled with all sorts of foods and plenty of them. I came upon the glass enclosed cold storage units, the units where they keep frozen packaged products like pizzas, ice cream, frozen dinners, etc. Well, I climbed up on top of one of these units, and laid down flat on my back. I laid down as flat as I could, so as not to be readily or easily seen by anyone who might enter the store or was walking nearby. From where I was, I could turn my head and see the main entry of the store however.
So for some reason, I turned my head towards the entry doors. It was if I was waiting for someone, anticipating someone coming, but I didn't know for sure who it would be.
Suddenly, I saw Ma Durga come through the doors. She was walking towards my location! I tried to melt into the metal of the casing so as not to be seen. But there was to be no hiding, as she lovingly approached. She was a fully radiant being, and was smiling as she approached, her eyes taking in everything around her. As she came closer, she grew and magically became taller. As she got to where I was, she was now taller than the enclosures, and easily saw me.
She looked at me with so much love and acceptance, my heart melted. It was if her eyes could see everything about me, accepted me, forgave all my troubles, or made them all vanish in the manifestation of Her power. In that one look, was all this and much more instantaneously. Love, acceptance, forgiveness, reassurance.
She calmly put her hands on her hips, looked into my eyes with her Ma Durga Eyes, and She said: "Well, are you coming? Get down from there and follow me!"
I hopped down and immediately left with her out of the store with all of its materialism and wealth, and happily followed Her. The joy and relief was enormous! I then awoke with a start.
This dream deeply resonated with me, although I knew I was a mature man in the dream, her loving approach to me elicited both a son like sense, and also a childlike sense. I knew I had done something, and felt like I might be in trouble. So I was trying hard to hide from 'Mom'.
Still, when Ma Durga 'found' me, I was overcome by several feelings at once, love, acceptance, and reassurance. I expected wrath, but got deep love. I also knew I was totally safe with her, protected, and that all my troubles were solved and no longer as important as I had thought they were. So I was eager and readily able to hop down and follow her out of the store. Happily returning to everyday life and then, transcending the world, protected by the Goddess, I suddenly awoke with this realization deeply embedded in my consciousness.
It was a wonderful experience, and although some people think dreaming is just the firing of neurons, that dream was one of the most meaningful dreams I've ever had.~~TK
Poet's afterword: Later, I wrote a poem called Ma Durga's Eyes. Although it could never capture the true magnificence of Her eyes, it is a step in that direction. It is one of the most popular poems on my blog and can be read here: Ma Durga's Eyes (the poem)
Also, as I write this, the significance of the calendar in regards to Ma Durga cannot be overlooked. We are just now in the beginning of the Hindu holiday, Navratri, also known as Durga Puja, where all over India and the world, Ma Durga is celebrated in her various manifestations across Nine Nights of bliss. ~~TK
And now it is April 2013, and we are on the eve of Vasant Navratri again and as India, Indians, and Hindus all over the world prepare to celebrate Nine Nights of Celebrations of Goddesses; I am again reminded of my blog entries about the Goddess, Ma Durga. Including (not linked last time) my newer "More About Goddesses column that features Mahadevi Durga .~~TK

A Word About Comments and Replies (blog entry)
I would like to thank everyone that has been leaving comments. They are very welcome. I have been replying to all of them and I usually try to do so within 24 hours. At the moment I am in Asia, so be aware of the time difference with where you are. Just recently, I was able to make my comment fields embedded, which means I can actually reply to a comment without making another comment to do so. (It puts my reply just below your original comment that way). I do not know if Blogger then lets you know I am replying or not. I know Blogger lets me know when you leave your comments.
According to what I can tell from the Blogger help pages this reply aspect is a new feature as of January 2012, and I just didn't know about it yet (sigh). Always before I had been replying to comments by making another comment. Perhaps because of this, some of you might not have seen or knew about my reply to you. (Unless you go back for a second look at the post) . I do want to apologize if that were the case.
I appreciate comments from my readers so much ! You can bet I will always reply somehow. Carrier pigeons, mule train, messages in a bottle, or attempted telepathy just doesn't cut it! So, the only time I might not be able to reply would be due to an internet outtage or blockage (which sometimes happens where I am) or some sort of physical illness.
Thank you again, please keep your comments coming. I have enough critics who dislike what I am doing or somehow think I am doing something bad, so I love to hear your nice comments!
Thank you so much-- to be read by YOU is an honor. I see where you are coming from, all over the world, and I am humbled, awed, and appreciative and I say Namaste to all!
May the Goddess and kind mother bless you all!
Regards,
Tim Kavi

More About Goddesses: Saraswati--The Artistic Goddess (Essay)
Often, she has sacred scriptures in one hand and a lotus (a symbol of true knowledge) in the second. With her other two hands she plays the music of love and life on the violin (veena). She is also often dressed in white ( a sign of purity) and rides on a white goose (swan). Regardless of how you view her, and in what manifestation, surely the Goddess Saraswati is one of the most interesting Goddesses in the Hindu pantheon.

Emerging Goddess: On Reviews; The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (Essay).
It is interesting too that some of those ugly reviewers often cannot be found elsewhere on the Net, their purchase of the book is not verified by the seller at the website where they have posted, and they have little to say that shows they have actually read poems from the work.
The heart of the message in my work is all about love, peace, freedom, empowerment, and it is never about hate.
My work about the Goddess is not about poetic style, form, or whether the words fit certain poetic meter. These are spiritual love poems. Really, they are devotional utterances that celebrate love and the Goddess; wherever She is found.
There will be more Goddess books by Tim Kavi. In other later collections, will be other themes and more traditional poetic styles. However, it is in these works about the Goddess that lies the message that is closest to my heart, and a message from my heart; to love, to be loved, to make a difference for peace in the world. It is my message of love to the world. If it calls you to do anything, it invites you to love fully from your discovered human heart.
It is a human heart that can still be found if you but look, even in the age of mechanized dulling of the senses and technological overload; it is a message of affirmation to bring confirmation, to come into your own empowered sense of self with other, and to love each other.
So, I am glad to get your comments, responses, and reviews. So keep them coming; good, bad, or ugly. To the ugly reviewers, I wonder about you, if there is some sort of misunderstanding, and why the hate, but respect your rights to say anything. To the bad reviewers, I will closely look at what you said. To the good reviewers, I am honored you are moved. Thank you to all of you sincerely. Blessings to you and prayers for all.
In conclusion, I wish to say that my devotional love "poems" do not ignore a mystical experience. Rather, they are saturated with it. Ultimately these are love poems that celebrate a divine sense of love and confirmation, but are also the utterances of love between persons. What lasting good is a love without both components? My hope though, is the attempt to reveal a fully empowered love, a love based on two souls; souls encountering each other in deep love. Yes, my Goddess poems refer to love between persons as well as a sense of the transcendent, but if you see only the physical aspects, you are missing something.
Thank you for reading. I am lucky and blessed to be read, and wish you all the best that life and love can bring.--TK
